Both ASR daemons return empty on silence by design, and the gungan client
turns that into "No speech detected" - so an unplugged mic and a working
one produce an identical symptom, and the obvious suspect is the daemons.

A debugging session was spent on the ASR stack while both daemons were
healthy and transcribing fixtures; the actual cause was that WirePlumber
had fallen back to a Focusrite Scarlett Solo with nothing plugged into its
XLR jack (-97.9 dB RMS, pure dither) after the previously configured
default source, a USB webcam, was unplugged. The Scarlett presents as a
perfectly healthy capture device while streaming silence.

Document the check-input-first order, the RMS reference points that make
dead input obvious, and how to repin the real device with `wpctl`.
